About this Opportunity
TERJA hosts monthly workshops in the Houston community focused on Menstrual Health for girls and young women. These workshops address crucial topics, including menstrual health equity, period poverty, sustainable solutions, and breaking the silence, shame, and stigma associated with menstruation. Participants watch videos and listen to stories from girls and young women in Kenya who are combating period poverty by creating reusable sanitary pads using local materials. The workshops include discussions on TERJAs reusable sanitary pads, which are made from organic, biodegradable materials, and explore how sustainable, eco-friendly solutions can help alleviate period poverty. A local tailor will demonstrate how to create reusable pads and underwear using both sewing machines and traditional hand sewing techniques. Following the demonstration, attendees participate in hands-on activities, where they create their own reusable pads, underwear, and bags, with ongoing support provided. We are seeking volunteers to serve as facilitators during these workshops.
Volunteers will be required to attend an orientation and training session before the first workshop. Your involvement will be instrumental in empowering girls and young women through education and practical skills.
