Purpose and Goal

The Grant Research Volunteer position involves actively participating in the Research Committee, a team of dedicated volunteers that provides valuable insights and recommendations to the Board and Foundation staff regarding grant research strategies and funding opportunities. This role focuses on conducting research for potential grants and contributing to budgeting recommendations necessary to facilitate successful grant acquisition.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Grant Research: Utilize our organization's research tools and resources to identify and compile a comprehensive list of potential grant opportunities.
  • Alignment Assessment: Conduct in-depth research and analysis of each grantor's mission, objectives, and funding priorities to ensure alignment with our organization's cause.
  • Eligibility Review: Evaluate each grant opportunity's eligibility criteria and requirements to determine whether our organization meets the qualifications.
  • Funding Likelihood Analysis: Analyze historical funding patterns and success rates of potential grantors to gauge the likelihood of receiving funding.
  • Grant Proposal Deadlines: Keep track of grant proposal submission deadlines to ensure our Grant Administrator can submit all necessary materials on time.
  • Proposal Recommendations: Provide informed recommendations to our fundraising team regarding which grant opportunities best fit our organization, considering alignment with our mission and the potential for successful funding.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with our Grants Administrator and other volunteers to share and collaborate on research findings, promoting a coordinated effort.
  • Data Management: Maintain accurate and organized records of all research findings, grant applications, and communication with potential grantors.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay updated on current trends, best practices, and funding opportunities in the non-profit sector to enhance the effectiveness of grant research efforts.

Qualifications

  • Passion for our organization's mission to support marginalized youth and a genuine interest in positively impacting the community.
  • Strong research skills with an ability to gather information from diverse sources and analyze data effectively.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized, capable of managing multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to present research findings and recommendations clearly.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, fostering collaboration and open communication.
  • Familiarity with grant research tools and databases is a plus but optional (training will be provided).
  • Prior experience in grant research or fundraising for non-profit organizations is beneficial but optional.

Time Commitment

  • Flexible time commitment tailored to your schedule.
  • Ideally, commit around five hours per week (about one hour per business day).

  • Meet with the Grants Administrator and Chief Executive Officer

This role is purely voluntary, and this arrangement is not meant to be legally binding to an employment contract. Out-of-pocket travel costs between home and volunteering place will be offered.
